Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
Coming up in Spring 2011!

Prenatal Yoga prepares expectant mothers to move through the physical discomfort of labor and delivery by helping to release physical tension, ease emotional anxiety, and tone and strengthen the pelvic floor. As an already certified yoga teacher*, you can learn to teach it, here at Yogawood.

During the course of the training, you will:

  • Learn anatomical and physiological changes that occur throughout pregnancy
  • Apply Asana, Pranayama and Meditation techniques specific to the changes and growth during pregnancy
  • Understand the principles of alignment and appropriate modifications to keep pregnant students safe through all phases of pregnancy
  • Discern poses contra-indicated during pregnancy and how to work with students' common discomforts
  • Explore the emotional and physical changes in all 3 trimesters of pregnancy
  • Deepen your understanding of the pelvic floor and how to strengthen its muscles in preparation for labor and birth
  • Understand the impact of physical postures on fetal positioning and discern whiich poses are beneficial and what poses to avoid in advanced pregnancy
  • Discuss how to lead and facilitate group discussion and inquiry
  • Learn to incorporate basic childbirth preparation exercises into classes
  • Practice teaching and incorporating class sequencing appropriate for women in all three trimesters of pregnancy

In addition to the classroom hours indicated above, participants will be required to observe and document two regularly scheduled prenatal yoga classes and participate in one prenatal yoga class (no, you don't have to be pregnant to do this as part of your training). Instructor: Jill Cummings, LCSW, E-RYT. Jill practiced prenatal yoga throughout her first pregnancy and believes this practice contributed to the awareness and mindfulness she experienced during the labor and delivery of her first child. After feeling incredibly empowered by this experience, she trained to become a prenatal yoga instructor. After years of continued yoga practice and teaching prenatal and postnatal mamas, she experienced a joyful home birth with her second child. Jill co-founded Yogawood with Beth Fill in 2006, and shared her love for this practice with expectant mamas in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and now Pittsburgh, where she and her family now live. She is honored to come back home to Yogawood to share her knowledge and experience through this prenatal yoga teacher training.

Tuition: $390. Pre-registration and non-refundable $100 deposit due by Wednesday, September 29; balance of payment due on first day of training.
